Mountfield, Blanc de Blancs 2016

The Mountfield Winery is based in the heart of sparkling wine's biggest sensation: Sussex. It's been developed over the last 9 years in the grounds of a country estate which has been in the same family since 1860. Converting the estate's old dairy into the winery, which is next to the vineyard, means they can protect the quality of the fruit during harvest as there is no delay from vine to press. Their Blanc de Blancs 2016 is a stunning sparkling wine, based primarily on the 2016 vintage, with 30% coming from their reserve of 2015. 100% Chardonnay and deep golden in colour; long aging on its lees have produced a gorgeously, rich, well-rounded flavour which perfectly captures maturer flavours whilst still retaining its fresh fruit and bright acidity. Definitely one of the most exciting releases of English Sparkling Wine for some time.
